Charles R. Wood Foundation announces 2020 Grant Application Deadlines

Glens Falls, New York:      The Charles R. Wood Foundation is currently accepting grant applications from IRS approved 501(c)3 organizations whose projects or programs assist children, healthcare or the arts in the Lake George Region and surrounding areas.  Eligible applicants are invited to visit www.charlesrwoodfoundation.com to submit an online application by April 1, 2020 for consideration at the spring meeting of Trustees.  The next subsequent deadline will be September 1, 2020 for consideration at the fall meeting.

Over the past five years the Foundation has awarded over $8 million dollars. “We are so pleased to be able to invest in such worthwhile projects. From the smallest soup kitchens to the larger capital projects, we are committed to investing in children, healthcare and the arts in our geographical focus area,” states Charlene Wood, Chair and Trustee. The foundation announced a new initiative in 2019 aimed at improving the overall health of the population in the region and will continue to accept collaborative applications from organizations serving Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Hamilton, Montgomery, Warren, and Washington counties.

Charles R. Wood established the Foundation that bears his name in 1978 to provide assistance in areas of special need in the Lake George Region and surrounding areas. Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations with an emphasis on programs for children, healthcare and the arts.  Mr. Wood, founder of Storytown USA, the present-day Great Escape Theme Park, the Double H Hole in the Woods Camp for critically ill children and numerous other endeavors and businesses in the area, died in September of 2004 leaving the majority of his estate to the Charles R. Wood Foundation.

The following grants to area nonprofit organizations totaling over $1.8 million were awarded in 2019:

  • $300,000 to the Adirondack Medical Center for the addition of 3D Mammography to the Women’s Health Program;
  • $300,000 to Hudson Headwaters Health Network for the Mobile Health Program;
  • $150,000 to Adirondack Health Institute for the Telehealth Technical Center project;
  • $125,000 to Glens Falls Hospital for the C. R. Wood Cancer Center Pruyn Pavilion Second Floor Renovation Project;
  • $56,000 to Double H – Hole In The Woods Ranch for Facilities Projects;
  • $50,000 to the Dollywood Foundation for the Imagination Library Program in the New York counties of Essex, Clinton, Franklin and Hamilton;
  • $50,000 to the Canton-Potsdam Hospital for the E.J. Noble Medical Campus 3D Mammography Diagnostic Technology Update;
  • $30,000 to Charles R. Wood Theater Inc .for the Lobby Renovation;
  • $30,000 to The Hyde Collection Trust for the Art from the Adirondacks/Lake George – Summer 2020 at The Hyde Program.
  • $25,000 to Rutland County Parent-Child Center for the Chaplin Avenue Early Childhood Education Center heating system installation;
  • $25,000 to Luzerne Music Center for Luzerne Music Center’s “2020 Vision” Building Project Faculty Cottage;
  • $24,300 to Schenectady Community Action Program for Exterior Fire Escape Improvements for the Sojourn House Project;
  • $23,225 to North Queensbury Volunteer Rescue Squad for the purchase of the MTS Power Load Lift;
  • $20,000 to American Cancer Society for Replacement of Flooring Surfaces at Hope Lodge Burlington;
  • $20,000 to the Galway Public Library for the library’s “Time to Grow” Capital Project;
  • $19,200 to Bay-Ridge Volunteer Fire Company for the purchase of the automatic external defibrillators/CPR machine;
  • $15,000 to Comfort Food Of Washington County for the Community Food Center project;
  • $15,000 to the Crandall Library for Glens Falls Arts District Arts Trail project;
  • $15,000 to Minerva Vol Fire Dept. & Rescue Squad Inc. for the Automated Chest Compressor and Video Laryngoscope acquisition;
  • $15,000 to Moreau Emergency Squad Inc. for purchase of one PhysioControl LUCAS 3 Mechanical Chest Compression System;
  • $15,000 to Saratoga Springs Universal Preservation Hall for PB&J Cafe Children’s Programming;
  • $15,000 to Bay Ridge Rescue Squad Inc. for the Medic Unit Life Saving Cardiac Project;
  • $13,000 to the Ticonderoga Central School District for the Ticonderoga Area Backpack Program;
  • $12,500 to Glens Falls Area Youth Center for roof replacement;
  • $12,500 to the VNA & Hospice of The Southwest Region for the Life’s Journey Campaign for Hospice and Palliative Care;
  • $11,500 to St Lawrence University for the purchase of cameras and iPads for the Nature Up North K-12 Science Projects;
  • $10,000 to Keene Valley Neighborhood Services towards room repair/upgrade;
  • $10,000 to North Country Ministry for the Warrensburg Building Project/President’s Campaign;
  • $10,000 to The Conkling Center for On The Go Transportation Service;
  • $10,000 to Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra for the Children’s Concert;
  • $9,000 to Mechanicville Area Community Services Center S Main St for the Mechanicville After School Clubs;
  • $7,500 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of The Southern Adirondacks for Community and School-Based Programming;
  • $7,000 to Haynes House Of Hope for night coverage;
  • $6,000 to Lake Theatre Productions for sound system replacement;
  • $6,000 to Village of Fort Edward Canal Street Market Place for the heating system;
  • $5,500 to Granville Engine & Hose Co No 1 for the thermal imagining camera purchase;
  • $5,300 to Families First In Essex County for meeting room improvements;
  • $5,200 to Glen Falls Operetta Club for the wireless stage microphone replacement;
  • $5,000 to Camp Abilities Saratoga for Summer Camp 2019;
  • $5,000 to Hartford Central School – Floyd Harwood Elementary School for the sound system purchase;
  • $5,000 to Historic Salem Courthouse Preservation Association for the Lunch, Learn & Play Summer Program;
  • $5,000 to Home Made Theater for theater tech upgrades;
  • $5,000 to Hubbard Hall Projects for one new restroom;
  • $5,000 to Junior Achievement of Northeastern New York for the Empowering Young People to Succeed Program;
  • $5,000 to Lake George Opera Festival Association for the Opera to Go program;
  • $5,000 to the Saint Anne Institute for Adventure Based Counseling and at-risk support for the Fort Edward Youth program;
  • $5,000 to the Salvation Army – Saratoga Springs for Fortissimo – Music Education Program;
  • $5,000 to Special Olympics New York for Local Fall Training Clubs and Competitions in the Capital District Region;
  • $5,000 to the Tannery Pond Center For Arts Education & Community Gatherings for Diversity on Stage and Screen performances;
  • $5,000 to Tri-County United Way for the Packs for Kids Program;
  • $5,000 to Shire Kids Corp for the Imagination Library program;
  • $5,000 to Fort Ticonderoga Association for the Pavilion Accessibility project;
  • $5,000 to the Adirondack Foundation for the Birth to Three Alliance – New Parent Kits;
  • $5,000 to The Bus Stop Club for therapeutic sibling sessions;
  • $5,000 to The Mentor Connector for Family Mentoring Program-Year 2;
  • $5,000 to Warrensburg Emergency Medical Services for radios for the Communications Initiative;
  • $5,000 to the Saratoga Center For The Family for Mental Health Therapy & Programs for Children & Families;
  • $5,000 to Neighborhood Connections for the Community Health for Senior program;
  • $5,000 to Mercy Care For The Adirondacks for the Age-friendly Communities in the Adirondacks program;
  • $4,955 to the Town Of Fort Ann for the Fort Ann Historical Society’s installation of a concrete floor in 1825 library basement;
  • $4,720 to South Glens Falls Fire Co. for purchase of 4 AEDs;
  • $4,700 to Aim Services for art supplies for the Enhanced Respite After School Program;
  • $4,580 to Little Theater On The Farm for materials for the parking area drainage project;
  • $4,187 to Caritas Inc. for Volunteer Recruitment and Training/Public Outreach;
  • $3,740 to the Adirondack Art Association for the Reaching Out program;
  • $3,500 to Lake George Region Women for WIN for Hygiene Kits for Kids;
  • $3,000 to YWCA of Schenectady for YWCA NorthEastern New York (NENY) Early Childhood Education Centers;
  • $3,000 to Lake George Post No 374 American Legion Emergency Squad for the purchase of the pediatric restraint system;
  • $3,000 to Salem Art Works for the purchase of a wet belt sander for the Glasswork Program;
  • $2,600 to Books In Kids Hands Corporation for the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library;
  • $2,500 to Caroga Arts Collective for the Caroga Lake Music Festival – 2019;
  • $2,500 to Champlain Children’s Learning Center for the Summer School Age Program;
  • $2,500 to the Johnsburg Central School District for the Outdoor Classroom;
  • $2,200 to the Hillview Free Library for the insulation of heater;
  • $2,000 to Camp TLC -Together Living A Challenge for Camp Moki;
  • $2,000 to Ticonderoga Festival Guild for Summer in the Park Concerts;
  • $2,000 to the Town Of Moreau for AED equipment and training for the Recreation Department;

In addition, $13,230 was granted in smaller denominations to benefit various other regional not-for-profit organizations.

The Charles R. Wood Foundation also recognizes the increased need for food supplies in the area’s food pantries.  Grants amounting to $155,800 were given for the summer and holiday seasons of 2019 to pantries in the Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton, Fulton, Saratoga, Warren, Washington counties of New York and Bennington, Rutland and Windsor counties of Vermont.
